When planning a holiday to Egypt many tourists head to the bustling beach resort of Sharm El Sheikh or towards the ancient sights located in Cairo or Luxor; but if you are looking for a holiday where you can truly relax and unwind and still have access to the incredible sights – holidays to Aswan are the perfect choice.

Aswan is located in the south of Egypt and is situated on the east banks of the Nile. The city of Aswan offers holidaymakers a welcoming environment where they can enjoy a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle of Sharm El Sheikh and Cairo. Aswan is most well known for its proximity to the Nubian Desert and Sudan and for its relaxed pace of life with spectacular mountain views. During the day there is plenty to keep you occupied from visiting the ancient tombs of the nobles to taking a cruise along the nile; whatever you decide to do you can be assured that the weather will be warm and sunny as Aswan is one of the driest inhabited places in the world. For many holidaymakers a Egypt holiday would not be complete without visiting some of the ancient wonders; Aswan is only a short flight from Cairo and Luxor so you can easily spend the day wandering around the Pyramids or gazing at the Valley of the Kings.

If you are looking for that perfect holiday destination, whatever time of year, Aswan has it all; from exploring the beautiful Aswan botanical gardens to watching the sunset on a Nile cruise. By spending your next holiday to Egypt in Aswan you will get a true appreciation for Egyptian culture in a much more relaxed and laidback atmosphere than its neighbours of Sharm El Sheikh and Luxor; within only 6 hours flight from most UK airports you could soon find yourself in this beautiful city.

  • Labour Day. 1 May

CHRISTMAS is celebrated on the 6 and 7th of January. On the night of the 6, the Coptic Christians go to the church around 10 o’clock for the holy mess and at midnight they eat dinner which includes a turkey. On the morning of the 7th gifts are exchanged and then the young children visit their grandparents and have the Christmas lunch at their place.

Another special holiday is EID EL FETR which comes after Ramadan.. People eat special cookies. One of them is posted in the recipes section. Also, there is Eid El Adha, this holiday is also for the Muslim Egyptians. It is a four days holiday, on the first day at dawn all men, (and women if they want to), go to the mosque to pray. Every family slaughter a sheep, which they have already bought, and take some of its meat and donate the majority of the meat to the poor. Then they have a late breakfast which includes “Fata”. “Fata” is formed of meat, bread, rice and vinegar. Then the young families visit the grandparents and relatives then they all gather at the eldest of the family and have lunch.
The remaining three days, usually you are invited to lunch at uncles, aunts, or friends.

SHAM EL NESSIM which comes immediately after Easter; so, it always occurs on Monday. Egyptians have been celebrating Sham El-Nessim (or Spring Day) for more than 4500 years. It is called Sham El-Nessim because the harvest season in ancient Egypt was called “Shamo”. In Arabic, Sham means smell and El-Nessim means air.
In ancient Egypt, Egyptians used to offer salted fish, lettuce and onion to Egyptian deities in this festivity. The same kinds of food are still eaten in Egypt on this day, as a tradition giving the day a special taste.
Lettuce represents the feeling of hopefulness at the beginning of spring. As for eggs, they symbolize the renewal of life in this season. Many people dye eggs in delightful colors. It is believed that ancient Egyptians were the first to practice this habit. Salted fishes are also eaten on this day because they symbolize fertility and welfare.

ARMED FORCES DAY is on October 6. It is the celebration of the Egyptian army’s crossing into Sinai in 1973.

THE MULID EL NABWY is an Islamic holiday which is celebrated according to the Islamic lunar calendar. Mulid El Nabawy means the birthday of the prophet. It is celebrated by making special candies and selling them in the streets and at candies stores. The candies are pink and are usually under the shape of a horse or a doll. People wear their best clothes and families get together to celebrate this day. Decorations are found on the streets and on buildings. Mulid El Nabawy is the equivalent of Christmas.

If you are traveling Egypt, the best, safest and often most affordable method to travel cairo is using taxi cabs. Trains, and busses are often too packed and dirty. They also stop and go so much in the hot cairo traffic that it takes hours to get from point a to point b.

On your Egypt holiday, you can take cabs and they are very affordable. There are many different types of cabs in cairo, egypt. The first is the black & white cab. This kind of cab is the most affordable taxi in cairo, egypt. These are often very old, cruddy cars with no air conditioning and there is a high chance that the car will break down on your trip.

My personal favorite type of cab is the white cab. This will make you egypt vacation much better. These drivers used to drive black and white cabs but have been helped out by the government. They are very polite and the cabs all usually have air conditioning and are newer than 10 years old.

The last type of cab is the yellow cab. This is a government entity of Cairo, Egypt and they are great for your egypt travel. These cabs are affordable and in good shape and most of them have ac.

If you are traveling Egypt, make the best use of your time and money by using a taxi on your egypt holiday. This is the best way to get around the city. Using a yellow or white cab will make your holiday in Egypt even better because they have air conditioning.

A desperate shortage of staple foods, brought about partly by rising oil prices, has sparked riots around the world.

In Egypt, where the common word for bread is ‘life’, Street Food investigates the cost for the average person.

When you travel Egypt on your vacation, don’t forget to help the poor people of the Cairo, Egypt and surrounding cities. The global economic crisis has made it more difficult for people to find food and survive. Even the price of bread has increased. I promise your holiday in Egypt will be much better if you give to the country you are visiting!

Once you take a holiday in Egypt, you will definitely want to come back for more. There are so many great cities to visit when enjoying an Egypt holiday but we will focus on Cairo, Luxor, and Alexandria.

Cairo is an amazing city. It is huge but do not be worried or nervous on your Egypt trip. The people are extremely friendly and usually they love foreigners. You have to use all of your senses to really experience the magic of Cairo, Egypt travels.Right in the city, there are ancient monuments, museums, nile cruises, malls, bazaars and more!

Alexandria is the second main city and one that you MUST visit on your Egypt Holidays. Alexandria is a short 3 hour journey from Cairo, Egypt. You just drive right up the “desert road”. You can take a train, bus, cab, limo, car or even fly there. The best and easiest way to travel egypt is using a cab or the Superjet bus system. The superjet will take you from Cairo to Alex for about 30 pounds which is the equivalent of only 5 dollars.

Luxor can offer its visitors many days of excitement. It is one of the most ancient cities in Egypt. The Luxor museum and the Karnak temple are must see locations on your vacation in Egypt. Have fun riding camels, driving little buggies and eating the local food. The wonderful valleys and ancient tombs will amaze you.

Thanks for visiting,

Note: I found this interesting bit of information from a site that I get some of my content from. Here is a link to their site. http://www.ask-aladdin.com/tips.html

Traveling Egypt alone advice:

Egypt tourism cannot be compared with other countries. Things are cheaper here. Even entry fees to the sites are cheaper than many other countries. Flying to Egypt is cheaper from many tourist destinations around the world. Nowadays you can even get an organized package trip for $500 with accommodation!

Often I will advice travellers to avoid getting taxis to tour the sites. What do you expect from a local taxi driver, who cares nothing but how much you will pay him at the end of your trip? This is the job of a travel agency, or a local licensed guide to do.

Today there are so many travel agencies in Australia and the UK that offer very cheap trip they are very well organized. You picked up the choice to do it on your own! Then you must be prepared.

You must be aware of the following points when you travel Egypt:

  • If you must take a taxi, then it would be best if you asked the reception/ concierge of your hotel to get you one. They have certain assigned taxis that they know very well, and deal with on a daily basis
  • If you want to tour a site on your own, you have to be aware of where you are going, how much you are going to pay for the ticket, and what is included with the ticket! This is the reason I built my information site: To help first time travellers to Egypt.
  • If you want to dine out, then you must know where the recommend restaurants are, and where you will find the clean healthy food. Don’t consider the price, even if you dine in a 5 star hotel, it is still cheaper than in your own country!
  • Independent travel, for your 1st experience, is not advised. I have explained elsewhere about how “Lonely Planet” gives the wrong impression. I have spoken to many people who have tried it this way, and wish they had gone as part of a group (I do not mean a package holiday – groups can be arranged when you get there!).

Combining the powers of Yellow.com.eg and Otlob.com completely changes the process of ordering food online, making it an easier, faster, and more convenient user experience,” said Marc Lambert, Regional Managing Director for Egypt Yellow Pages Ltd.

Cairo, Egypt, November 22, 2009 –(PR.com)– Egypt Yellow Pages Ltd, the Local Search Company, announced today its strategic partnership with Otlob.com, the popular regional online food delivery service provider.

Users of Yellow.com.eg will soon have direct access to food delivery service from more than 400 restaurants across not just Cairo and Alexandria, but also Hurghada, Port Said, Tanta, Mansoura, Assiut, and Luxor to which Otlob.com recently expanded its coverage. Users will simply browse by restaurant on Yellow.com.eg, and the restaurants that offer the Otlob.com service will have an online delivery icon next to their listings. Clicking on this icon will open the menu for that restaurant and allow the user to make their order. Results can be filtered by city/area and cuisine.

“Combining the powers of Yellow.com.eg and Otlob.com completely changes the process of ordering food online, making it an easier, faster, and more convenient user experience,” said Marc Lambert, Regional Managing Director for Egypt Yellow Pages Ltd.

Currently, when making a food delivery order, the customer has to search Yellow.com.eg for a restaurant, get the phone number, and call the restaurant. One major drawback is that the customer has to know exactly what they want since they do not have a food menu. Beginning in January 2010, when the service goes live on Yellow.com.eg, users will not only be able to see a restaurant’s geo-coded location and contact information, but they will also see the establishment’s menu and instantly be able to make their delivery order online without having to pick up the phone.

Otlob.com is owned and managed by LINKonLINE, a subsidiary of LINKdotNET, which owns, manages, and develops online portals serving a wide range of customer needs across numerous sectors. Since its inception, LINKonLINE has been the leader in providing online services and content in Egypt and elsewhere in the Middle East and North Africa. Otlob.com is currently available in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, the U.A.E., and Bahrain.

Based in Maadi, Cairo, Egypt Yellow Pages Ltd is the official publisher of Yellow Pages-branded products in Egypt. Egypt Yellow Pages Ltd is the exclusive owner of the Yellow Pages™, Walking Fingers & Design™, and Yellow.com.eg™ trademarks in Egypt, and is supported by over 400 employees and 15 regional offices throughout Egypt. Yellow Pages distribution surpassed 390,000 print directories in 2008, as well as delivering millions of page views on Yellow.com.eg electronic properties.
